Florida Man Arrested for Knife Attack Over Sneakers

A dispute that reportedly began over a pair of sneakers allegedly escalated into a violent confrontation that led to criminal charges in South Florida.

According to the authorities, the incident happened on December 17 and involved a man who allegedly approached a group of younger men he did not know. The police say the man focused on one individual’s shoes, claiming they appeared to be counterfeit, and the group told the man to leave them alone. Afterwards, the man allegedly made comments suggesting he would retrieve a weapon. He reportedly walked away toward a scooter and left the area, and suggested he planned to return.

According to reports, several minutes later, the man came back. One of the individuals involved told investigators that he felt someone grab his shoulder. When he turned around, he allegedly saw the same man holding a large kitchen knife. The alleged victim began recording the encounter on his phone. The suspect reportedly swung the blade toward the victim and knocked the phone from his hand. As the alleged victim attempted to retrieve the device, the man reportedly tried to stab him in the face. The alleged victim was able to avoid being cut.

During the alleged confrontation, the suspect reportedly entered the passenger side of a nearby vehicle being driven by a DoorDash driver. That driver later told the police he did not know the suspect but had encountered him earlier that day. According to the police, the driver claimed the suspect believed delivery drivers were speaking negatively about him at a nearby restaurant and asked to be taken there.

The police alleged that while inside the delivery driver’s vehicle, the suspect continued attempting to attack the victim as the incident was being recorded. Investigators later charged the driver with being an accessory for allegedly allowing the suspect into his vehicle and leaving the scene after witnessing the alleged attempted stabbing.

Days later, the police identified the suspect, who reportedly turned himself in. It was ordered that he be held without bond at the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation facility. Both men were being held on immigration-related matters as well.
