A woman in Central Florida who sings and plays guitar at local spots was accused of driving under the influence after she left a town square venue and was caught speeding and operating her vehicle erratically.
On the evening of November 30, a woman driving a Toyota 4-Runner allegedly sped out of Lake Sumpter Landing, the waterfront mall in The Villages.
A deputy from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office was nearby, and they reportedly noticed the vehicle was being driven faster than the posted speed limit. It was reported that they were going 54 miles per hour, which is 19 miles per hour over the 35 miles per hour limit.
When the deputy started trailing behind the driver, they noted that there was not enough space left between the 4-Runner and the car in front of them. The deputy also alleged that the driver was weaving in and out of the lane.
The deputy performed a traffic stop, and when they identified the driver, they reported that she was a 27-year-old vocalist and guitarist who performed locally. When she was asked if she had been drinking, the woman reportedly said she had a couple of drinks over the course of the four hours she spent at Lake Sumpter Landing. She assessed her level of intoxication as a 2 out of 10.
When she took a breath test, it was reported that she blew a .187 and a.196 BAC. She also allegedly did poorly on the roadside sobriety test.
The woman was taken into custody and booked into the Sumter County Detention Center. She is facing preliminary charges of one count of driving under the influence, and one count of reckless driving. She was released from jail on a $1,500 bond.
