Florida Woman Accused of Swerving Truck Toward Children

A Florida woman was accused of driving her pickup truck toward a group of children who were playing outside an apartment complex.

Witnesses reportedly told investigators that several children were outside near the complex on June 7 when a pickup truck allegedly swerved in their direction. According to a witness, the children quickly ran toward a nearby residence after the vehicle approached them.

The children’s mother later confronted the driver about the incident. According to an affidavit, the woman allegedly admitted that she had tried to run over the children. Another witness reportedly told investigators that the driver made a comment referring to the incident as “target practice.” The same witness also alleged that the woman used a racial slur during the confrontation.

Investigators said the woman disputed the allegations and denied intentionally steering toward the children. She allegedly told the authorities that she had simply made a wide turn to avoid a yellow cart near the roadway.

According to the investigation, the woman did not immediately leave the area after driving past the children. Instead, she reportedly went to a nearby gravel lot and performed several “donuts” before returning to the apartment complex and parking.

Just before 7 p.m., the authorities were notified about the situation.

During the investigation, the woman allegedly told officers that she would soon deliver them a “special present” and reportedly added that the statement was intended as a threat.

The 59-year-old woman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, four counts of child abuse, and two counts of corruption by threat against a public servant. She was booked into the county jail, where online records showed she remained held on a $250,000 bond.
