Man Accused of Threatening Teens With Meat Cleaver

A Florida man was accused of threatening two teenagers with knives after becoming angry about noise coming from a go-kart being worked on in a neighborhood garage.

According to the authorities, the incident happened during the evening hours of June 8 in a residential area of Lake County. Investigators said the teens were revving the engine of a go-kart inside a garage when a neighbor allegedly became upset by the noise and confronted them.

The alleged victims told the authorities that the man approached them while yelling and using profanity. During the confrontation, he allegedly threw a lawn chair across a driveway and demanded that one of the teens, who was visiting a friend, leave the neighborhood.

The teens reportedly attempted to calm the situation, but the argument continued. Investigators said the man then went into his home and returned carrying a meat cleaver and a large kitchen knife.

According to the authorities, the man allegedly advanced toward one of the teens while holding the meat cleaver and threatened to strike him. The alleged victim later said he feared for his safety and quickly left the area on a four-wheeler. After returning home, he was reportedly so shaken that he struggled to explain to his mother what had happened. A 911 call was then made, and they returned to speak with responding deputies.

Body camera footage later obtained by a local television station reportedly showed the man acknowledging that he confronted the teens while armed with the knives. Investigators said he told deputies he grabbed the first items he could find because he was angry.

Following the investigation, the 60-year-old man was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was taken to the county jail and later released after posting bond.
