A man physically attacked his stepson-to-be when he reportedly caught the man sexually abusing his five-year-old granddaughter.
22-year-old Aaron Michael Cunagin lives in Middletown, Pennsylvania. He is engaged to be married to a local woman.
On August 24, Cunagin was spending time with his fiancé and her family members. His fiancé’s father, in addition to more than one child, was at the residence.
The other kids were playing in the living room, but the 5-year-old was in her room, which is also set up as a playroom. Cunagin was allegedly in the room with the child.
The youngster’s grandfather walked past the door, and he reported that his granddaughter was sitting on Cunagin’s lap. He said he thought that something about the situation felt “wrong,” but he went back to the living room.
After spending a few minutes in the company of the other kids, the grandfather believed Cunagin and the youngster were so quiet that it made him uncomfortable.
He returned to his granddaughter’s room and allegedly saw Cunagin in the middle of sexually assaulting the girl. Her grandfather said that he saw Cunagin standing near a crib with his pants pulled down and his privates exposed. His granddaughter also reportedly had her pants down and genitals visible.
The girl’s grandfather quickly reacted by punching Cunagin.
Officers with the Middletown Borough Police Department went to the residence to investigate the situation. They believed there was enough probable cause to arrest Cunagin, who reportedly said he was blacked out during the incident, for sexually abusing the child.
Cunagin was taken into custody and booked into the Dauphin County Correctional Facility. He is facing charges for suspicion of rape of a child less than 13 years of age, indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors, and indecent exposure. He is being held in lieu of a $150,000 cash bond.
