Gym Argument Turned to Assault with Free Weight

A woman in Texas was reportedly arrested after an altercation inside a gym that allegedly turned violent over a personal dispute.

The incident happened on January 7 at a 24 Hour Fitness location in Spring, according to local law enforcement. Deputies were called to the gym after receiving a 911 call reporting an assault between two women. When officers arrived, they spoke with those involved and began investigating what led up to the confrontation.

Authorities say the suspect allegedly recognized the other woman as someone her romantic partner had reportedly been involved with. An argument followed inside the gym, and the situation escalated. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly picked up a free weight and threw it toward the other woman.

Court records indicate that a judge noted alcohol may have been a factor in the alleged incident.

The following day, the woman was taken into custody and booked into the Harris County Jail. She is facing a preliminary charge of one count of aggravated assault. She was held in lieu of a $1,000 bond and released from the facility after posting it on January 9. It was reported that she was ordered not to go within 200 feet of the gym where the incident reportedly occurred, and is prohibited from any contact with the alleged victim. She may not use any kind of alcohol, including products like mouthwash that contain it, and she is not allowed to smoke marijuana. Additionally, she may not have any weapons.

Law enforcement officials have not yet released details about the extent of any injuries, but the incident was documented as an assault involving a heavy object. Investigators later stated that they believe the object involved was a 25-pound weight plate. The case remains under investigation.
