A man was arrested after allegedly violently attacking his elderly wife when she told him he needed to take a shower before getting into bed.
On June 22, a 68-year-old woman and her husband were at their home in Kenosha, Wisconsin, when they began arguing after she expressed disgust about him not taking a shower for two months. The sheets on their bed were clean, and she wanted him to bathe before he turned in for the night. The man reportedly became angry, and the fight allegedly turned physical.
According to reports, her husband grabbed her throat and constricted her breathing for a few moments and then punched her in the face multiple times. When she tried to call the authorities, he allegedly took away her phone. The woman kicked him and ran out of the house, and she used a neighbor’s phone to call 911. When Kenosha police went to the home, they noted that the woman’s nose was bleeding, and she had additional open wounds on her face. Her husband reportedly told the police he slapped the woman across the face to defend himself.
The man was taken into custody and booked into the Kenosha County Jail. He is facing multiple preliminary charges, all of which have a modifier added for alleged crimes against an elderly individual, including felony substantial battery with intent to do bodily harm, felony strangulation and suffocation, felony domestic abuse – intimidation of a victim, and misdemeanor disorderly conduct. According to facility records, he is being held in lieu of a $5,000 cash bond.
His wife reported that her husband has been diagnosed with delusions and early-onset dementia, and he is not currently receiving treatment. She said she thinks the condition caused his allegedly harsh behavior.
