A Pennsylvania sandwich shop employee was reportedly attacked by two of his coworkers after a dispute about his service dog.
On the evening of December 16, an incident between three employees occurred at a Jimmy John’s in Downtown Pittsburg which put one man in critical condition and the others in the county jail. According to reports, the alleged victim had his service dog with him, and one of the other men asked if he could pet it. A disagreement ensued, and the situation reportedly became physically violent.
When the authorities were notified, Pittsburg police officers went to the location, where they found that the alleged victim looked like he had been violently attacked. Emergency Medical Services took him to a local hospital for medical attention. When they learned the identity of the suspects, who were no longer at the restaurant, they went to look for them.
The men, ages 31 and 33, were seen nearby with blood on their clothes. Both suspects were taken into custody and questioned about the incident at the police department. The 33-year-old man who asked to pet the dog reportedly said he acted in self-defense when his hair was pulled by the alleged victim. The 31-year-old said he tried to get in between the pair when he was struck by the alleged victim, which resulted in him hitting the man.
The following afternoon, the suspects were booked into the Allegheny County Jail. They are each facing preliminary charges of felony aggravated assault and criminal conspiracy. According to records, both men are currently being held without bond.
When the police viewed the surveillance video, they reported that it appeared the alleged victim was on the ground when he was attacked by his coworkers. They said the pair used the tire from a bicycle to hit the man, in addition to punching and kicking him.
It was reported that the service animal was not harmed during the incident, and at the time this was written the alleged victim was still in the hospital in critical but stable condition. He was diagnosed with a brain bleed and head trauma.
