Man Stabbed COPD-Stricken Neighbor in Chest

A Florida man was arrested after allegedly stabbing his neighbor and longtime friend, who uses oxygen for his COPD, in the chest.

Late in the morning on July 19, a man returned to his apartment in Deerfield Beach after lunch when a neighbor he had been friends with for 10 years came outside and ran towards him. The neighbor was reportedly wearing gloves and holding the handle of a knife that had razor blades attached to the end of it. When he caught up to the man, who has COPD and uses an oxygen tank, the neighbor allegedly plunged the razor blades into his chest. It was reported that just before the alleged victim lost consciousness, he asked his friend why he was attacking him. The alleged victim’s wife tried to help her husband, and she rushed into their apartment and returned wielding a metal pipe that she used to strike the neighbor in the head.

The authorities were notified about the alleged violent attack, and deputies from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, along with paramedics, went to the address. According to the police report, the suspect had a cut on his arm and a bump on his head, and the alleged victim was bleeding internally from a punctured lung. They were both taken to Broward Health North.

After he was released from the hospital, the man was booked into the Broward County Jail, where he is being held without bond. He is facing a preliminary charge of premeditated murder.

The alleged victim, who sustained life-threatening injuries but was reported as being in stable condition, told the police he believed the incident occurred due to his friend having a mental health issue. Some of the neighbors were interviewed, and they reported that they also believed it was related to a mental health issue.
