An unhoused man in Abilene allegedly stole an airport vehicle and forced the police on a low-speed chase resulting in his arrest.
40-year-old Joseph Lee Dosson resides in the Abilene area, and he is currently without permanent housing.
Around 4:00 am on May 12, a 2008 Isuzu NPR refueling truck was reportedly stolen from the Abilene Regional Airport. The truck was involved in a hit-and-run with another vehicle.
After the truck left the scene of the accident, the driver of the car that had been struck notified the authorities and reported that a truck hit them and drove away.
Officers with the Abilene Christian University Police responded to the report, and they were able to locate the truck that they believed was involved in the crash.
It was reported that they tried to perform a traffic stop, but the driver of the vehicle taken from the airport did not comply.
The driver of the truck reportedly led the police on a low-speed chase for a few blocks. Officers with the Abilene Police Department went to help with the situation.
The authorities lined the road with spike strips, and the vehicle was forced to a stop.
When the police interacted with the driver, he was identified as Dosson
Dosson was taken into custody and booked into the Taylor County Jail. He is expected to face charges of third-degree felony evading arrest and second-degree felony theft. According to the authorities, he may face additional charges. Dosson was incarcerated in lieu of a $60,000 bond.
The authorities said that they do not believe Dosson had any accomplices in the alleged theft of the truck. They further stated that they do not think he is “connected to any other groups of concern.”
