A Philadelphia man is facing a multitude of charges after he was accused of attempting to steal a woman’s car while she was trying to put gas in the vehicle.
Early in the evening on August 14, a woman pulled into a Sunoco station in Feasterville to put gasoline in her car. She parked in front of one of the pumps and got out of the vehicle with her keys in her hand. After she began pumping the gas, a man driving a red truck pulled into the station and stopped near her car.
The driver reportedly got out of the truck and walked over to the woman’s car. He allegedly opened the passenger door and got inside, and then slid over to the driver’s side. He reportedly acted like he intended to steal the vehicle, but he was unable to start it since the owner had the fob. According to reports, when he realized it would not start he got out of the car and headed back to his truck and immediately drove away.
The man was reportedly driving so unsafely that he caused concern for several other drivers on the road. 911 was notified, and officers with the Lower Southampton Township Police Department went to the area to investigate. They quickly located the red Ford that they believed the callers reported. When he saw the officers, the driver allegedly tried to run away. He was caught and believed to be under the influence of drugs. The police also reportedly found that he had drugs and paraphernalia with him at the time.
The suspect was taken into custody on multiple preliminary charges, including attempted robbery of a motor vehicle, attempted theft of a motor vehicle, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, public drunkenness, evading arrest or detention on foot, possession of drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Bucks County Correctional Facility in lieu of a $150,000 bond. It was reported that he has a preliminary hearing scheduled on August 28.
