Mom Abandoned Youngster in Park as Punishment

A Florida woman was arrested after she was reported for allegedly leaving her 5-year-old by himself in the park because he was misbehaving.

On January 11, a woman and her son were spending time together at Flamingo Park in Miami Beach when she allegedly walked away from the 5-year-old boy. People in the area noticed the child was at the playground by himself, and after approximately 20 minutes, the authorities were notified about the situation. When they arrived, the officers talked to some of the alleged witnesses. A few people mentioned that they watched as the boy’s mother left in a car with a man, and it was believed that she was intoxicated. It was also asserted that the woman threw her handbag in the bushes on the main street alongside the park. According to reports, when they talked to the youngster, he told the police that it was not the first time his mom had left him there. He reportedly said she does it as a form of punishment when he misbehaves. The officers also reported that he told them he did not know where his mother went.

During their investigation, the police found a purse in the bushes, and they presumed it belonged to the woman. When they looked inside, they found pot and pills.

The woman was found and taken into custody. She was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. She is facing preliminary charges for felony child neglect without great bodily harm, felony possession of a controlled substance – Xanax pills, and misdemeanor possession of cannabis – less than 20 grams. Her son was placed in her mother’s custody. According to facility records, the suspect was released after posting a $3000 bond.
