According to reports, the 27-year-old mother of a 3-year-old girl put up a GoFundMe page asking for donations to pay for travel and expenses so she could take her child for a medical procedure in Ohio she allegedly claimed the youngster needed.
It was reported that the child had been to Cook’s Children’s Hospital in the past, and they found out that her mother was taking her to other states for treatment of conditions her daughter had not been diagnosed with. They believed the mother was searching for any doctor she could find to get the procedures done, even though they were allegedly not needed.
A month later, a doctor at another medical center reported that they believed the girl’s mother was prohibiting the child’s feeding tube from working properly. They asserted this was done when the youngster did not present the same symptoms in front of medical professionals that her mother claimed she was having.
In May, the authorities allegedly discovered some social media content between the mother and others concerning the situation. They believed it supported the allegations made by the medical professionals who reported the situation. Other searches of her online activities allegedly revealed internet searches about curing Munchausen syndrome by proxy (recently renamed Factitious disorder imposed on another), and whether it is illegal to lie to a doctor about a child’s condition.
On July 14, the woman was taken into custody and booked into the Tarrant County Jail. She may face charges for felony injury to a child — bodily injury.
