Mother Got in DUI Wreck With 2-Year-Old in Car

The mother of a toddler was arrested for various charges after she reportedly drove under the influence of alcohol with the child in the car, got into an accident, and fled from the scene.

Early in the morning on June 1, in Unity, Maryland, the driver of an SUV allegedly ran a red light and smashed into another vehicle.

After the two-vehicle accident occurred, the woman who was reportedly driving the SUV unfastened a youngster from a car seat and quickly left the scene.

Pennsylvania State troopers responded to the crash, and when they reached the site, it was determined that the man who was driving the other vehicle needed medical attention.

An emergency medical helicopter took the man to a hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.

Officers searched the vicinity, and they came across a woman with a 2-year-old boy in the parking lot of the Springhill Suites Hotel.

The woman was identified as Hagerstown resident Amy Bernstein, 39, and the authorities asserted that she was the driver of the SUV that allegedly caused the accident.

While investigating the crash site, it was reported that the troopers were given a video by someone who said they witnessed the accident. The authorities asserted that the footage proved the driver of the SUV was at fault for the collision.

Bernstein was taken into custody and booked for suspicion of felony aggravated assault while driving under the influence, endangering the welfare of a child, hit-and-run of an attended vehicle, fleeing the scene of a crash, and several traffic infractions. She was released after posting a $25,000 unsecured bond.

It was reported that the man involved in the car accident sustained life-threatening injuries.
