Officer Dragged by Suspect’s Car During Armed Robbery

A California man was arrested after he allegedly dragged a police officer into a moving vehicle during a reported armed robbery, according to the authorities.

The incident reportedly happened around 5:15 a.m. on February 20, when the authorities responded to a call about multiple suspects involved in a robbery at a grocery store. By the time officers arrived, at least one suspect was still in a vehicle outside the business.

According to the authorities, the situation quickly turned physical when an officer approached the vehicle and made contact with the driver. During the struggle, the suspect allegedly accelerated, pulling the officer into the vehicle as it moved forward. The vehicle then reportedly struck a police car and part of the nearby store.

Body camera footage later released reportedly showed the vehicle crashing into the front of the store before officers arrived, with individuals running inside. When officers reached the scene, a patrol car attempted to block the suspect’s vehicle while another officer approached on foot.

During the encounter, the officer reportedly gave repeated commands for the driver to stop. The suspect allegedly refused and continued driving while the officer was partially inside the vehicle. The officer then reportedly fired a weapon, striking the suspect in the leg.

The vehicle soon crashed into a parked car, and the suspect allegedly got out and tried to run. The authorities said the suspect was located and taken into custody a short time later.

The suspect reportedly suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The officer involved was treated for minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The investigation remained ongoing, with both a local police investigations unit and the county district attorney’s office reviewing the incident, according to the authorities.
