After a Georgia police sergeant got into a single-vehicle car accident, the authorities asserted that it occurred because he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Robert Parsons is a sergeant with the Dunwoody Police Department.
It was reported that just before midnight on January 25, Parsons, who was reported as being off duty, was on the road and driving his own vehicle.
Parsons was reportedly involved in a single-vehicle crash, and the Dunwoody Police Department was notified about the situation.
When Parsons was identified as the person involved, the Georgia State Patrol came to assist with the incident since the man works with the agency at the scene.
Parsons was placed under arrest and booked into the DeKalb County Jail. He has been accused of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving on roadways laned for traffic.
According to records, Parsons was released on unsecured judicial release after spending two days in jail. He is waiting for a pre-adverse action hearing to be scheduled. It is reported that the disciplinary actions they plan to implement will be presented at that time.
Parsons has been placed on administrative leave while internal affairs investigate the situation.
He was also placed on administrative leave nearly four years ago when he was accused of DUI, but he was ultimately penalized on a lesser charge of reckless driving.
The Dunwoody Police Chief commented about the allegations, and one of the things he addressed was how he is “greatly concerned that it appears like one of the leaders of our department made a terrible choice to drink and drive,” and also said that he believes that everyone is innocent until proven guilty.
