An arrest was made after a man allegedly doused his roommate in hot oil during a disagreement about allowing people to use the amenities in their residence.
On October 20, a 54-year-old man was cooking ribs in the kitchen in his shared home in Tallahassee. It was reported that he and his roommate had been having disagreements about the man letting his guests use the shower and bathroom. The situation escalated when he reportedly took the grease-filled pan off the stove and approached his roommate with it. He told him to leave the home and allegedly threatened to force him out if he did not go voluntarily. It was reported that the dispute between the pair continued, and the roommate ended up covered in grease with serious burns. The alleged victim left the residence and called the authorities, and when police arrived, he was rushed to the hospital by helicopter for medical treatment of burns on his face, neck, and left arm.
Both men had different accounts of what happened during the altercation. The alleged victim claimed his roommate intentionally burned him with the oil in anger, but when the police talked to the suspect, he said the man came at him, and he was only defending himself.
On October 29, the man was taken into custody and booked into the Leon County Jail. He is facing a preliminary charge of one count of aggravated battery with intent to cause great bodily harm. According to facility records, at the time this was written, he was being held in lieu of a $10,000 bail. The suspect, who has an extensive list of criminal priors dating back to 1993, has entered a plea of not guilty to the allegations.
