Authorities investigated the burglary of a business in American Canyon, California, after about $100,000 worth of tools, copper wire, and vehicles were allegedly stolen from the property.
Investigators continued gathering evidence while working with other law enforcement agencies to identify those believed to be responsible. Their investigation eventually resulted in the recovery of some of the stolen property during the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Hayward.
The theft was reported on Monday, and investigators began tracking vehicles believed to be connected to the burglary. On Tuesday, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office stopped one of those vehicles and notified the authorities in American Canyon. After responding to the location, investigators said they found evidence that allegedly connected a 53-year-old Hayward man to the case. He was later booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections on several felony charges, including burglary. His bail was set at $25,000.
Another vehicle believed to be linked to the investigation was stopped the following day by Hayward officers. The authorities from American Canyon responded and arrested a 49-year-old Hayward man, who was booked on a felony charge of conspiracy to commit a crime. His bail was also set at $25,000.
Investigators later served a search warrant at a Hayward residence with assistance from several law enforcement agencies. During the search, they recovered some of the property that had been reported stolen from the business.
The authorities also said the investigation included unusual photographic evidence. According to investigators, one of the suspects reportedly took pictures while inside the business, and the images allegedly placed him at the scene during the burglary. Among them was a selfie that appeared to show a masked individual posing in front of a large industrial spool of wire. Investigators also released an evidence photograph showing multiple $100 bills displayed during the investigation.
