Sitter Trapped Toddler in Tumbling Dryer

A Florida woman was arrested after she allegedly put the child she was babysitting inside of a clothes dryer and turned the machine on, causing the boy to get injured.

It is reported that 35-year-old Amber Christine Chapman babysits for a 4-year-old boy on a regular basis.

On February 2, after Chapman reportedly provided childcare for the toddler, he was eating dinner with his mom when he told her that he was feeling pain.

The child’s mother took him to the emergency room at the University of Florida Health Leesburg Hospital to try to find out if something was medically wrong.

The medical professionals that treated the boy reported that bruises surrounded both of his eyes. It was also reported that his body and ears were bruised.

When it was suspected that the injuries were incurred through abuse, inspectors went to the youngster’s home.

It was reported that when they talked to the child, he said Chapman put him inside the dryer and turned it on. He reportedly said there were also towels in the machine, and he “went around and around.” He said Chapman opened the dryer door at one point and then turned on the dryer again.

The dryer was inspected, and after the authorities spoke with the medical staff at the hospital, they asserted that the boy’s injuries were caused by his babysitter putting him in the dryer.

On the morning of April 9, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office placed Chapman under arrest and booked her into the Lake County Jail for the allegations. She is facing charges for suspicion of first-degree felony aggravated child abuse.

Chapman, who told the authorities she did not do what she is accused of, was released from custody later that day on a $15,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court for the charge on May 2.
