A Georgia man allegedly used stolen photos, voice-changing technology, and artificial intelligence to convince another man that he was engaged to a woman who did not exist.
According to police, the alleged victim believed his fiancée, who called herself “Hailey Morello,” was a sheriff’s deputy in Florida. The two had never met in person, but the alleged victim reportedly sent the individual money and exchanged vehicles with the man police say was actually behind the fake identity.
The alleged victim’s family became suspicious and believed he was being catfished. According to police, relatives investigated the person behind the online identity and eventually connected the suspect to “Hailey,” but the alleged victim refused to believe their warnings.
