A Perris couple with thirteen children was taken into custody on Sunday when one of their teenagers snuck out of their home and called 911 to report that her parents were holding her hostage with her 12 siblings.

57-year-old David Allen Turpin and his wife, 49-year-old Louise Anna Turpin, have been married for 34 years. The couple share 13 children, the youngest of which is 2-years-old and the eldest 29.

The Turpin parents homeschool their children, and Mr. Turpin serves as the principal of the Sandcastle Day School; a state approved facility that operates out of the Perris residence. Records reflected six of the children were enrolled this year, and they were being instructed in sixth grade through twelfth grade materials.

The parents of an 8 year old boy have been charged with child endangerment after their son survived an overdose of heroin last month, according to police.

On January 11th the police responded to a call of a child not breathing at a home in a suburb of southwest Cleveland, Ohio. They found the boy unresponsive in the living room with his father doing chest compressions on him. The boy was transported to the hospital after an officer found a pulse. The parents, Charles Dowdy and Danielle Simko are suspected of narcotics use after drugs and syringes were found on the property, the police report stated.

The father had told police that he and the mother were in bed with their son when he noticed that the child’s lips were turning blue.

Several Ulta beauty stores have been hit by thieves all around the Southern California area, including the Cerritos, Lakewood, Tustin, Rosemead, Redondo Beach, and The Rolling Hills Estates stores. Stores are claiming estimated loss of $100,000.

Seargant Mark Moffet of the Lomita Sheriff’s Department has said the thieves operated in what he called a “mob style.” They would enter the store as a group, spread out and stuff as much merchandise in their pockets as they could, and then rush out before police had a chance to arrive.

An eight person team hit the Rolling Hills Estates store, where officers were able to identify a known gang member as one of the suspects. “Once we identified some players, the flood gates opened up,” Sergeant Moffet said.
