A Louisiana mother may face charges after authorities said her 14-month-old son was hospitalized with severe alcohol intoxication that allegedly placed his life in danger.
According to the authorities, the child remained in the pediatric intensive care unit after doctors determined he had suffered alcohol intoxication, acute respiratory failure, hypoxia, and hypercapnia. Medical professionals reportedly said the alleged victim could have experienced respiratory arrest, brain injury, or death without immediate treatment. The Louisiana Department of Child and Family Services later took custody of the toddler.
Hospital testing allegedly showed the child had a blood-alcohol concentration of about 0.305%, which is nearly four times the legal limit for an adult driver in Louisiana.
