Two parents in West Virginia are facing criminal charges after the authorities reportedly began investigating concerns about the living conditions of their two children.

Sources reported that on February 10, staff members at the Doddridge County Early Learning Academy in West Union, West Virginia, contacted law enforcement after allegedly discovering cockroaches inside the backpack of a student. The authorities stated that school employees also reportedly saw what appeared to be bug bites on the boy’s face, hands, and lower body. In addition, the child’s sister, who is also a student at the school, allegedly told a teacher that her clothing was very dirty and asked if they would help her wash it. School officials reportedly became concerned about the children’s overall hygiene and well-being.

Deputies with the Doddridge County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the situation and later referred the matter to Child Protective Services. Authorities stated that a CPS representative visited the family’s home and allegedly found what was described as extremely poor and unsanitary living conditions. Following that visit, both children were reportedly removed from the residence and placed in the care of CPS.

Authorities in Texas say a young child was placed in serious danger after she was captured on a property owner’s overnight camera roaming through a field in the early morning hours. The footage, taken around 3 a.m., reportedly showed a young girl wandering alone in the dark in temperatures that had dropped into the 40s. She appeared to be dressed only in a light outfit and was barefoot. The cam owner contacted the authorities a couple of hours later and reported the images.

Deputies immediately began searching the surrounding area. Not long into the search, the child’s mother contacted authorities and reported that her daughter had gotten out of the house earlier that morning. She said she had located the child around 4:15 a.m. but had not informed law enforcement until after sunrise.

When deputies arrived at the family’s residence, they reported finding conditions that raised concerns. The home allegedly contained trash, spoiled food, unsanitary clothing, and evidence of rodents. The toddler was also reportedly dirty, and the mother allegedly declined to provide fresh clothing or accept assistance.

The parents of a 3-year-old were arrested when the youngster was found on the roof of their residence while they were reportedly passed out after allegedly staying up all night to play video games and smoke marijuana.

According to reports, around 8:00 PM on April 9, the mother and father of two children, ages 3 and 1, checked on the youngsters before relaxing in their Glenville, West Virginia, home for the evening. They reportedly smoked marijuana and decided to play video games, and they ended up staying up all night. At some point, presumably while his parents were asleep, the 3-year-old managed to get out of his room and climb onto the roof of the dwelling. It was not reported how long the child was up there, but late the following morning, the police began receiving calls from people who saw him on the roof.

Just before noon, officers with the Glenville Police Department went to the address, and the youngster was still on the roof. The officers entered the home, but did not immediately find the parents. They reported that the house was dirty and had excrement smeared on the walls, and that they found the 1-year-old, whom they said “smelled of feces and urine.” The police reported that they went into the 3-year-old’s room, which allegedly had a lock on the outside of the door, and saw a broken window. They surmised that the youngster climbed out the window and made his way to the roof. While it was noted that the boy, who also smelled like he had soiled himself, was cold and wet because it was raining outside, there are currently no reports of physical injuries.
