In an ironic twist, the authorities caught three alleged fuel thieves in Central Washington after their truck, which reportedly had multiple stolen items, ran out of gas.

George, Washington (intentionally named after the former President), is an unincorporated town in Grant County. Its 1.3 square miles are home to just over 800 people. On the morning of January 30, multiple items went missing from a local farm, and the authorities were notified about the purported theft. They learned that someone nearby saw a pickup truck drive by that looked like it came from the farm, and they wrote down the license plate number before it was out of sight.

Deputies from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office collected the information, and they were later informed that the farm was missing 100 gallons of diesel gasoline and several car batteries. They began searching the surrounding area for a vehicle matching the description of the pickup truck. Around 7:15 AM, about 2 miles from the farm, three people in a truck stopped in a residential driveway when the vehicle ran out of gas. They asked for help from the man at the home, and he quickly recognized the truck had the same license plate number and appearance as the one seen near the farm. The homeowner called the authorities, and the deputies headed to his property.

A Philadelphia man is facing a multitude of charges after he was accused of attempting to steal a woman’s car while she was trying to put gas in the vehicle.

Early in the evening on August 14, a woman pulled into a Sunoco station in Feasterville to put gasoline in her car. She parked in front of one of the pumps and got out of the vehicle with her keys in her hand. After she began pumping the gas, a man driving a red truck pulled into the station and stopped near her car.

The driver reportedly got out of the truck and walked over to the woman’s car. He allegedly opened the passenger door and got inside, and then slid over to the driver’s side. He reportedly acted like he intended to steal the vehicle, but he was unable to start it since the owner had the fob. According to reports, when he realized it would not start he got out of the car and headed back to his truck and immediately drove away.

Two men in Southern Florida are facing charges after allegedly using a special device to help them steal over $1,000 worth of diesel gasoline that the authorities believe they were going to resell.

On the morning of July 19, two men in a van pulled into a West Palm Beach Wawa gas station and parked next to one of the diesel fuel pumps. According to reports, the pair were there for at least 20 minutes, and the unusually extended transaction time caught the attention of an asset protection specialist. When they realized the gas had been pumping the entire time, one of the employees at the location and the police were notified.

Officers from the West Palm Beach Police Department went to the location to investigate, and when they arrived, they found that the suspects were still there. They reported that the gasoline smell was strong when they approached the van. The vehicle was searched, and the officers reportedly found a device the men allegedly used to “bypass the circuitry” in the pump so the gas would flow without it registering on the meter. The gadget also appeared to have caused significant damage to the pump.
