A teenage ARCA stock car racing driver was arrested and charged after allegedly striking a high school classmate in the testicles.
18-year-old Daniel Dye attends Father Lopez Catholic High School in Daytona Beach. Additionally, he is a professional stock car racing driver with the ARCA Menard Series for GMS Racing.
On April 25, Dye was in a class when he reportedly approached one of his classmates.
According to reports, as the boy was seated at his desk, Dye allegedly began “grinding and dancing” against his face. The boy reported that he tried to shove Dye away, but he was unsuccessful in his attempts to make Dye leave him alone.
Dye allegedly continued to gyrate his body against the boy for a bit longer. When he stopped bumping and grinding, he reportedly punched his classmate in the crotch.
The authorities were notified about the incident, and the police went to the school to investigate.
When they spoke with the alleged victim, the police said that the boy told them his scrotum was injured, and that he had not been able to urinate since the incident took place.
When the boy was taken to the hospital for medical treatment, it was reported that one of his testicles may have ruptured.
It was asserted that Dye caused the boy’s injury.
On the afternoon of April 26, Dye was taken into custody and booked into the Volusia County Jail for suspicion of felony battery. He was released from custody on a $2,500 bond a few hours after he was arrested.
ARCA released a statement regarding the arrest and said, “Dye has been suspended indefinitely from ARCA competition for a violation of the 2022 ARCA Rulebook Section 12-8.1.E.2, a behavioral penalty which references ARCA Member Conduct Guidelines.”
Dye’s defense attorney stated that he is confident that the charges will be dropped when all the facts are presented. He said that the entire incident “was people playing a game at the school and nothing more than that.”
