A hotel room where a construction crew was staying became the scene of a violent alleged assault after a disagreement over whether workers should leave their jobs together, according to the authorities.
Police were called after a supervisor reported that one member of the crew had been taken to the hospital with a serious head injury. The authorities learned that several members of the same grain bin construction crew had recently lost or left their jobs, while the injured worker reportedly chose to remain employed.
According to the authorities, one of the former workers allegedly warned earlier that day that anyone who refused to quit would be killed that night. The victim later told officers that three former coworkers came to his room and allegedly attacked him because he refused to leave the job.
The authorities said one suspect allegedly struck the victim in the head with a rock while the other two reportedly restrained him during the assault. After the group left the room, the injured man located his supervisor, who sought medical assistance. Officers who met with the victim at the hospital reportedly observed a large head wound consistent with his account.
Investigators reported finding blood throughout the room, including on the walls, floor, furniture, mattress, and other nearby surfaces. In another nearby room, officers located one of the suspects and took him into custody. The authorities also reported recovering a bloodstained towel tied into a knot that allegedly contained several rocks. Surveillance footage reportedly showed one of the suspects tying the towel before the three men entered the victim’s room.
The three former coworkers were later arrested, and each was charged with assault in connection with the alleged beating.
