Toddler Hung Out Car Window with Driver Asleep at Wheel

A driver who was assumed to be intoxicated and passed out at the wheel was arrested after a child was seen hanging out of the car window by passersby who reported it.

Last Sunday, 24-year-old Dominick N. Ludwick was driving in Ogden with a 2-year-old girl in the vehicle.

It was reported that when Ludwick was near a local intersection, he was seen slumping over the wheel of the vehicle. The passersby who spotted him reported that they noticed the car because a young child was hanging out of the window.

The Ogden Police were notified, and officers went to the scene.

When they arrived, the police said that the toddler was in the vehicle with the allegedly unconscious man. She was reportedly standing up on the passenger’s seat without any safety restraints. It was additionally noted that the child safety equipment was leaning against the inside of the car door and not properly installed in the vehicle.

The officers reportedly had to turn off the running engine and wake the man, and they allegedly smelled what they believed was the scent of recently burned marijuana.

Ludwick’s eyes were reportedly red and glossy, and the police asserted that he had been driving under the influence with the toddler in the car.

It was reported that Ludwick took a roadside sobriety test and performed poorly.

Ludwick, whose relationship to the child has not been made public at this time, was placed under arrest. He is facing charges for suspicion of driving under the influence with a minor in the vehicle, child endangerment, and refusal of a chemical test.

The mother of the young girl was called so that she could pick her up at the location where the incident occurred.
