Uber Driver Shot Teen During Argument at Waffle House

Early Sunday morning in Dunwoody, Georgia, a reportedly violent encounter unfolded outside a Waffle House involving an Uber driver and a group of teenage girls. According to the Dunwoody Police Department, the driver had been dispatched to the restaurant to pick up passengers when he discovered there were five girls waiting for a ride. He reportedly told them he couldn’t take all of them because his vehicle did not have enough space or seatbelts for everyone. It was reported an argument immediately ensued.

During the dispute, one of the teens allegedly struck the driver in the face and made threats against him. Investigators said they believe the driver responded by shooting the 16-year-old several times. The teenager had gunshot wounds on her back and legs and was rushed to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for treatment. Local media later reported that she was in critical but stable condition.

The authorities interviewed the other four girls at the scene, who said the driver’s version of events was untrue. They reportedly told police that the injured teen never threatened the man. Officers from the Dunwoody Police Department arrested the 38-year-old driver.

The suspect was booked into the DeKalb County Jail. He is facing preliminary charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm. He was later released on bond, though the exact date of his release was not immediately available.

At the time this was written, the case remains under active investigation by the Dunwoody Police Department, with no additional details released about potential further charges or court proceedings.

Uber confirmed that the man had been a driver for the company and said the driver’s account access had been permanently revoked.
