A North Dakota woman was accused of driving toward a group of children after her son told her that they took his bike.
The children had reportedly taken the boy’s bicycle as a prank and hid it before eventually returning it. The boy later told his mother that one of the children had also threatened him. She told investigators she was working when her son came to her. The woman had gone looking for the group after her son told her what happened.
The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office was called about the incident, which happened in Aneta last Saturday.
One person who said they witnessed it said the woman drove toward the children at about 60 mph with her high beams on. The vehicle was reportedly swerving before stopping about four feet from the group. One child ran away crying.
A man who was with the children reportedly tried to get between them and the vehicle. He said the woman drove around him, so he grabbed the passenger-side window to find out what was happening. The woman reportedly told him she did not want to talk and drove away.
According to witnesses, the vehicle remained in the neighborhood for another 15 to 20 minutes, and one of them said he believed the woman was going to hit him with the automobile.
Deputies later spoke with the woman about the incident. She disagreed with the claim that she had been driving as fast as the witness claimed. Authorities said she expressed remorse and explained that she became upset over her son being bullied.
The woman was charged with four counts of reckless endangerment with extreme indifference. She was booked into the Lake Region Law Enforcement Center and later released.
