A West Virginia woman reportedly told police that a coworker pulled a handgun from his car during their lunch break and pressed it against her leg.
The woman and the suspect worked together at a Walmart in Fayetteville. According to the criminal complaint, they were sitting in his car on August 23 when he began talking about problems with his girlfriend. The woman said he told her that he wanted to take his own life before pulling out a handgun and asking if she had ever had a gun pointed at her.
Police said the man removed the magazine from the firearm before pressing it against the woman’s leg. The woman did not report the alleged incidents to police until several days later.
When they returned to work, the woman went back to stocking shelves. According to the complaint, the man followed her through the aisles while she worked. She said she had another employee contact management because of his behavior.
Later that day, the woman met with the man in his car after their shifts ended. According to the complaint, they planned to continue their conversation. The woman told police that the man reached over, grabbed her by the throat, and squeezed. She said he then apologized.
The woman reported the alleged incidents to police on August 27.
The man was arrested Friday and charged with battery and brandishing a deadly weapon. Both charges were misdemeanors. Police said the charges stemmed from the woman’s allegations about what happened during the lunch break and later meeting.
He posted a $1,000 bond and was released from Southern Regional Jail in Beaver. His next court date had not been scheduled as of Monday.
The complaint described the throat-grabbing as a separate incident from the alleged gun incident.
