On Sunday, when a woman in her apartment was the alleged victim of an intruder who was not wearing pants, she reportedly used a baseball bat in an attempt to protect herself from possible harm.
When Simone Parker came out of the bathroom in her apartment after hearing a strange noise she was allegedly confronted by 29-year-old Timothy Valdez in the act of burglarizing her residence. Valdez was said to have been in possession of a knife and nude from the waist down.
Valdez allegedly made the knife visible to Parker and ordered her to provide him with clothing and give him her cash. Parker retrieved a shirt and threw it at Valdez trying to use the distraction to run past him so she could get out of the apartment. Valdez allegedly prevented her attempt and the pair began to get physically aggressive with each other.
After a short scuffle, Parker was able to get ahold of a baseball bat that she had in her bedroom and she began trying to defend herself with it. The alleged victim stated, “I start swinging it (the bat) and swinging it — I hit him in the back of the head — then he turns around and I hit him in the face over the eye.”
Valdez reportedly strong-armed the bat away from Parker and struck her in the head before she ran out of the residence. Before exiting her apartment Valdez allegedly snatched Parker’s handbag.
Before Valdez was able to leave the apartment complex another resident of the building grabbed him and constrained him while the authorities were notified. Parker’s son had just arrived at home and he joined his neighbor, stating that he was rough with the suspect “so he has something to think about.”
Phoenix police reached the scene and arrested Valdez on suspicion of burglary, armed robbery, kidnapping and aggravated assault. He was booked and jailed, and he is being held in lieu of $125,000 bail.
It was reported that Valdez later stated that he had been under the influence of methamphetamines and that he had no recollection of the events that allegedly occurred.
