A New York man found himself in legal trouble for reportedly driving while intoxicated when going to a county jail to pick up a friend who had also been arrested on DWI allegations.
According to the authorities, the incident happened on May 16 at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in Fultonville. The 25-year-old man allegedly drove to the facility to pick up an acquaintance who was being released following a separate DWI arrest.
The authorities said the man allegedly failed to park in the public parking area after arriving at the sheriff’s office. Instead, he reportedly drove into a restricted area of the property, which led to contact with a deputy sheriff.
According to reports, during the interaction, the deputy suspected the driver was intoxicated. The authorities said standardized field sobriety tests were administered, and after the tests were completed, the man was placed under arrest.
When the police ran a check with the New York Department of Motor Vehicles, it showed that the man’s driver’s license had previously been revoked. According to the authorities, the revocation was connected to an earlier DWI-related conviction and an alleged refusal to submit to a chemical test.
The man was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or higher, driving while intoxicated, and unlicensed operation, according to a sheriff’s office press release.
At the time this was written, officials had not publicly released a blood alcohol content level connected to the arrest.
After being processed, the man was issued an appearance ticket ordering him to appear in Glen Town Court at a later date. The authorities said he was later released to a third party.
