Airport Worker Fired for Scrimmage with Ex-NFL Player

A United Airlines employee and former NFL player Brendan Langley allegedly got into a physical altercation which led to Langley’s arrest and the employee’s termination.

27-year-old Brendan Langley previously played for the Denver Broncos as a cornerback after he was drafted out of Lamar University. He is currently an American gridiron football wide receiver for the Canadian Football League’s Calgary Stampeders.

Late in the morning on March 13, Langley was at the United Airlines counter at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.

Langley was speaking with a United Ground Express agent, who, according to reports, confronted him about reportedly improperly utilizing a wheelchair by using it to push his luggage around.

A physical fight started between the pair, and a bystander started to video record it when the employee and Langley were in the middle of the altercation.

The employee can be seen being slapped across the face by Langley while he appears to continue taunting and encouraging the man to fight. Langley tried to swing at the worker several times, but the man kept dodging and mocking him.

The worker is seen slapping Langley in the face before Langley pushes him away. The employee stumbled over a few pieces of luggage and ended up on the ground behind the counter.

While the worker was on the ground, the video shows what appears to be blood on his face near his eye.

The man stood up and rushed at Langley, and they had a heated verbal exchange while people nearby tried to stop the scuffle.

Langley maintains that he did not strike first during the incident, but he was taken into custody and charged with simple assault before being released on his own recognizance.

The employee was fired from his job due to the incident.
