A woman in Florida was arrested after allegedly abandoning two of her three children at a local hospital.
On August 14, a woman from Dothan, Alabama, was driving in Destin, Florida, with her three children, one of whom is an infant, in the car. She reportedly did not stop the vehicle, but she allegedly told one of the older children to take the baby from the car seat and change their diaper. It was reported that the youngster refused to remove the baby from the car seat while the car was moving.
According to reports, the woman stopped at HCA Florida Destin Emergency. She reportedly told the older children she needed money for gas, and she told them to go into the hospital to see if they could find anything. When they got out of the vehicle, a security guard allegedly saw their mother drive away with the baby, leaving the other youngsters behind. The guard accompanied them into the hospital.
The authorities were notified, and the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation. A sheriff’s deputy talked to the children, whose ages have not been disclosed, and they explained how they ended up at the hospital.
A while later, the woman went back, and she reportedly left the baby in the car while she approached and asked the security guard if they had seen the youngsters. She was informed that they were inside, and she left in her vehicle a second time. The authorities tried to find her, but they were initially unsuccessful.
On November 3, the woman was taken into custody on a warrant and booked into the Okaloosa County Jail. She is facing preliminary charges for two counts of child neglect — unlawful desertion of a child. She was in jail for five days and was released after posting a $2,000 bond.
