A dispute over a parking space ended with a 71-year-old man on the floor of an Elk Grove convenience store after an Amazon delivery driver allegedly punched him.
On March 30, the alleged victim stopped at a gas station and convenience store. He had gone inside to use the bathroom and get a drink when the Amazon driver allegedly confronted him over the parking spot he chose and said he intended to park there himself.
The argument continued inside the store after the alleged victim walked away from the initial confrontation. Video from the store’s surveillance camera reportedly showed the driver standing close to him and threatening to beat him.
The alleged victim tried to leave, but as he walked away, the driver reportedly punched him in the side of the head and caused him to fall onto the floor. Store employees reported that they witnessed the incident.
After the alleged altercation, the driver walked up to the counter and appeared to attempt to buy something. He reportedly continued addressing the man and questioned him about what was wrong with him.
The alleged victim was treated for a concussion and neck pain following the incident.
Police later identified the driver as their suspect. They contacted him, and he turned himself in later that day.
He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail, and he may face multiple charges, including felony elder abuse, felony criminal threats, and misdemeanor battery.
Amazon said the driver worked for a separate company that handled deliveries for the retailer. According to Amazon, the company investigated the incident and notified the contractor. The driver was no longer allowed to deliver Amazon packages.
It was reported that the alleged victim is also pursuing a civil lawsuit against Amazon over the incident.
