Teen Kroger Employee Pilfered $1M from Faux Returns

A teenager employed at a Georgia Kroger has been accused of stealing nearly $1M from the store by allegedly making invalid returns of merchandise.

19-year-old Tre Brown works at the gas station at a Kroger store located in Duluth, Georgia.

During an estimated two week period, from the end of December through the beginning of January, Brown allegedly found a way to scam Kroger for an exorbitant amount of money.

The person in the corporate office that holds the position of tracking and reporting possible thefts was on vacation during the weeks that Brown reportedly performed his attempted misappropriation of the funds.

After the employee returned and reportedly noticed discrepancies of $980,000.00, the situation was reported to the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office for investigations.

When the authorities looked into the claims, they said that Brown had allegedly managed to take the hefty sum by finding a way to receive refunds for items that did not exist. The refunds were reportedly dispersed to several credit cards that were allegedly in Brown’s name.

Each of the transactions was reported as being from $75.00 to over $87,000.

Upon looking into the situation further, the police asserted that Brown had made purchases of two vehicles, clothing items, and firearms using some of the money he allegedly stole from his place of employment.

Though it was reported that Kroger recovered a large but undisclosed amount of the money back, Brown is expected to face felony charges for the allegations.

Brown was taken into custody on January 14, and he was booked into the county jail on an $11,200 bond. He was charged with felony theft by taking and released later in the day.
