Attempted Carjacker Planned to Sell Stolen Auto for $20 of Drugs

A Texas man allegedly held a man at knifepoint while trying to steal his vehicle so that he could sell it and buy $20 worth of crack.

David Perez is a 44-year-old resident of Brownsville.

In the morning on January 23, Perez reportedly approached a stranger when they began to exit their vehicle.

Perez was allegedly holding a knife, and he reportedly told the driver that he would use it to stab him if he did not hand over his cash and car keys.

The man did not comply with Perez’s alleged demands. It was reported that he was able to flee without being injured, and he found a safe place to stay so he could notify the authorities about the incident.

Officers from the Brownsville Police Department collected the information from the alleged victim, and they opened an investigation to find the suspect.

According to reports, Perez was located nearby at Stripes Convenience Store.

When the police arrived, they noted that Perez was drinking alcoholic beverages. The store employees alleged that the man took the drinks without paying for them.

After the alleged victim confirmed that they believed he was the person with whom they had the encounter, Perez was taken into custody and placed in the police car.

While they were driving Perez to the facility, the police said that the man threatened them and their families. Perez allegedly told the officers that their families would be taken by the Mexican Cartel.

Perez, who allegedly disclosed that he was trying to steal and sell the car so he could buy $20 worth of crack, was booked into the city jail on a $12,500 bond. He is facing charges for felony first-degree aggravated robbery, felony making terroristic threats to a peace officer, and theft.
