Florida Man Claimed Hypodermics were for Fishing

When the police allegedly caught a Florida man holding drugs and several hypodermic needles, he reportedly told them he had the syringes to use while fishing.

30-year-old Eric Bennett is a lawn care worker who resides in Vero Beach.

According to reports, in the early afternoon on January 22, Bennett walked to a local mobile park where his uncle lives.

While Bennett was on the property, someone reportedly saw him walk directly into a road sign and stumble into the street. The alleged witness notified the authorities and gave a description of the man’s clothing.

A law enforcement officer from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office went to the trailer park and encountered the man they believed the caller had reported. He was identified as Bennett.

The affidavit states that the officer noticed “large ‘bulges’” in Bennett’s pockets, and they became suspicious of what was inside.

Bennett was asked if he had any weapons, and he reportedly disclosed that he had a bag of hypodermics that he uses for fishing.

After Bennett reportedly handed over the bag of needles, he allegedly produced a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and placed both items on the officer’s patrol car.

The officer asked him if they could look in the pack, and Bennett reportedly admitted that he had some fentanyl stashed inside.

A field test allegedly produced a positive result, and it was noted that the police believed Bennett was under the influence.

Bennett was taken into custody. He was booked into the Indian River County Jail on a $7,500 cash surety bond, and he is facing charges for felony possession of narcotics. Bennett has a court date set for February 25.
