A man in Washington was arrested after he was accused of attempting to kidnap a barista by allegedly trying to pull her through the drive-thru window when he paid for his drink order.
According to their website, Ladybug Bikini Espresso, which advertises “beautiful ladies serving beautiful coffee,” has multiple stands throughout the state of Washington where women wearing bikinis serve the customers. Early in the morning on August 18, an individual later identified as a 19-year-old from Tacoma pulled up to the window and placed an order at the stand in Lakewood. When the barista tried to collect his payment, the man allegedly grasped her arm and tried to pull her out the window. The woman was able to break free, and she notified the authorities.
Officers from the Lakewood Police Department went to the location, and the suspect had already left. The barista told them what happened, and they documented red marks on her body that were believed to have been caused during the incident. The police investigated the situation for several days, and using surveillance video and other technology, such as license plate readers, they believed they knew who the suspect was.
On August 27, the man was taken into custody by the Lakewood Police Department. According to the incident report, when he talked to the authorities, he told them that he experienced extreme stress from having lost his wallet, in addition to dealing with relationship issues, and “his conduct did not reflect his character.” After he was interviewed, the man was booked into the Pierce County Jail. He is facing a preliminary charge of felony attempted kidnapping in the first degree. Records indicated that he was released the following day, and a judge ordered that he is not allowed to contact the alleged victim or go to any Ladybug locations.
