Last weekend, the authorities reported that a string of car burglaries had taken place around the Deltona area. Surveillance videos collected from the scenes reportedly showed that the suspects were two individuals in masks and gloves.
One of the vehicles allegedly taken was a Mercedes. Surveillance footage from a nearby gas station showed a male driver with tattoos on his neck and face, and the authorities were able to use the information to identify the suspect.
The police looked on social media until they discovered an account in the man’s name. They reportedly saw a photograph of the suspect standing with the allegedly stolen Mercedes and claiming that it was his new car. It was also noted that he had the same clothes on as the person in the gas station video.
His name was run through the system, and the police learned that the man already had an active warrant for his arrest in an unrelated case.
The man was taken into custody and booked into the Volusia County Jail. He is currently facing several charges including 11 counts of conspiracy to commit burglary of a conveyance, one count of conspiracy to commit attempted burglary of a conveyance, fraudulent use of a credit card, and a probation violation for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He is currently being held on a $255,000 surety bond for all charges except possession of a firearm, for which no bond amount has been issued.
At this time, the second suspect has not been located.
