A disagreement over a possible traffic accident led to a stabbing allegation against a 28-year-old delivery driver in Boston, Massachusetts. Prosecutors said a 60-year-old motorist was stabbed in the abdomen after approaching the driver’s vehicle to exchange information.
According to reports, the older motorist said he was pulling out of his driveway when the delivery driver tried to drive past him. He reported that the other vehicle hit his car and drove away. The older man followed because he wanted to exchange insurance information.
Prosecutors gave a different account of how they believed the men met. They said the older motorist got out of his car and approached the delivery driver to obtain his information, and the driver allegedly stepped out of his own vehicle and stabbed him.
The delivery driver’s attorney disputed the allegations in court. She argued that the vehicles had not collided and said the older motorist had initiated the confrontation. She also asserted that her client was defending himself.
Investigators traced the driver’s license plate and located him at his home in Boston. He was taken into custody on October 19.
The following day, the suspect pleaded not guilty to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60. Prosecutors asked the judge to impose additional restrictions, including not allowing the suspect to drive and ordering him to home confinement in addition prohibiting him from possessing dangerous weapons. They argued that the alleged attack on a stranger over a traffic dispute raised public safety concerns.
The judge set bail at $5,000 and ordered the driver to have no contact with the alleged victim. If released, he must remain under house arrest.
