Nearly $1 Million in Trading Cards Stolen From FedEx Truck

Trading cards were reportedly stolen from a FedEx truck parked outside Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) in Santa Ana, California. The missing shipment included sports cards and Pokémon cards, including items that had been graded by PSA.

The alleged theft was reported on October 13, after the driver noticed that the truck’s lock was missing. The driver checked inside and reportedly found that the cargo had been disturbed. Investigators were trying to determine how long the truck had been left unattended before the theft was discovered.

The missing shipment included two pallets of cards, and boxes taken from a third. Each pallet held about 100 cases, but investigators did not know how many individual cards were missing. The stolen property was first valued at $963,000. That estimate was based on the information available when the theft was reported. After further investigation, police believed the total could be higher, but they had not determined the full amount.

The truck had been parked in an open lot on private property that the public could access. Security guards were present at the business, but the lot had no gate around it. No arrests had been made, and the stolen items had not been recovered.

FedEx said it was cooperating with local law enforcement. The company said protecting customer shipments was a priority and referred further questions to local investigators.

Collectors, the company behind PSA, said it was working with police and FedEx. The company contacted customers whose cards were reportedly stolen and arranged compensation based on the cards’ fair market value. It also canceled the certificates for the stolen items and alerted online marketplaces so they could watch for rare cards. Collectors noted that the missing cards could have personal value to their owners as well.
