Child Told Police Mom Lied About Driving Drunk

When a woman who was suspected of driving under the influence told an officer that she had not been drinking, her 9-year-old son disputed her claim and told her to admit to the police that she had.

49-year-old Kristin Wiley is a language arts teacher at Vero Beach High School. She has a 9-year-old son.

Just before 2:00 AM on March 20, Wiley was reportedly driving with her son in the car when she passed an officer who was interacting with people involved in an unrelated incident.

According to the police report, when Wiley approached the spot where the police car was parked, she was speeding. The woman reportedly had a near-miss collision with the officer’s vehicle.

The officer approached Wiley and noticed that her son was in the back seat of the car, but he reportedly did not have a seatbelt on. The boy was additionally noted as being “curled up.”

When speaking with Wiley, the officer reported that she smelled as if she had been drinking. Her eyes were allegedly “watery and red in color,” which contributed to the officer’s belief that Wiley had imbibed alcohol.

Wiley reportedly initially denied that she had anything to drink when the officer inquired.

It was reported that her son spoke up and told his mother that she was not supposed to lie to the police and encouraged her to tell the officer the truth.

The woman allegedly admitted she had a couple of drinks at a party, from which she said they were returning home.

When asked to perform roadside sobriety tests, Wiley did not consent.

Her breath sample was taken, and Wiley allegedly blew .224 and .218.

Wiley was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and resisting without violence. She was booked into the Indian River County Jail on a $2,500 bond.
