A now-retired female corrections officer at the Idaho Department of Correction has been accused of sharing nude photos and having sexual relations with an inmate inside the prison’s haircut facility.
29-year-old Miranda Rose Ackerman began working with the Idaho Maximum Security Institution as a corrections officer in 2016. She reportedly used the name Miranda Jefferds while working at the facility.
At the beginning of April 2020, Ackerman turned in her resignation and left her position.
An unnamed source at the Idaho Department of Corrections reached out to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office and informed them about a sexual connection involving Ackerman and an inmate that allegedly transpired during her employment at the facility.
Within a couple of weeks of learning about the allegations, the authorities began to look into Ackerman’s conduct during her employment at the prison.
It was reported that during February and March, Ackerman was allegedly sharing an ongoing sexual relationship with an inmate employed at the prison’s hair salon.
In addition to the sex-related accusations, it has also been purported that Ackerman snuck naked pictures of herself into the prison and gave them to the man with whom she was allegedly intimate.
The ADA county prosecutors obtained a warrant for Ackerman’s arrest on June 4, and the woman turned herself in the following day.
Ackerman was jailed, and she is expected to face a felony charge for suspicion of sexual contact with an inmate, and a misdemeanor charge for unlawfully possessing or introducing contraband at the prison facility.
After her arraignment, Ackerman was released on her own recognizance and issued a no-contact order barring her from entering any space within 100-feet of the inmate.
If she is found guilty and given the maximum sentence for the charges, Ackerman could spend the rest of her life in prison.
