Couple Sent to Purgatory for Drug Activity with Child in Car

A Utah couple is facing multiple charges after they were allegedly found using fentanyl and hiding a stash of drugs in their vehicle close to a 4-year-old girl.

Early in the morning on June 29, a man, woman, and little girl were in a hotel parking lot in St. George.

An undisclosed source notified the authorities and asked them to send someone to perform a welfare check. Officers went to the location, and they found the couple and child standing in the lot next to a vehicle assumed to belong to them.

It was reported that when the police initially tried to interact with the man he jumped over a wall and ran off.

While some ran after the male suspect, other officers talked to the woman, and she allegedly pointed them in the direction of where drugs were stashed inside the vehicle. She told them that she was hiding them for someone else.

The car was searched. A plastic bag of a substance believed to be methamphetamine and more than 40 fentanyl pills were allegedly inside a container under the seat close to where the youngster was presumed to have been sitting. The police also suspected methamphetamine had been used in the vehicle close to the time that they arrived.

Moments after he fled, the authorities captured the male suspect and brought him back to the parking lot where he was arrested.

The woman, who also has three active warrants, was taken into custody and booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility. She is facing one second-degree felony count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, third-degree felony child endangerment, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor tampering with evidence, and misdemeanor drug and paraphernalia charges.

The man was also booked, and he is accused of one second-degree felony count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, third-degree felony child endangerment, felony evading, and misdemeanor drug and paraphernalia charges.

A guardian came to the location and picked up the youngster.
