Denver Fire Department Deputy Chief Arrested for DUI

The deputy chief at the Denver Fire Department has resigned from his position after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Jeremy Vigil was named deputy chief of the Denver Fire Department in 2020.

Early in the morning on January 29, Vigil and his girlfriend reportedly got into an argument in her home.

The authorities were notified by a neighbor, and they were told that Vigil and the woman might need police intervention for a possible domestic violence situation. The caller told the police that the man involved in the dispute was driving a white Ford Explorer.

An officer with the Arvada Police Department was driving in the area when they saw a vehicle that fit the description, and they believed it was the person they were looking for.

The officer noted that the driver of the Explorer was speeding and estimated that he was going at least 30 MPH over the posted speed limit.

After chasing down the SUV, the officer performed a traffic stop. As he approached, he saw that it appeared to be a Denver Fire Department take-home vehicle.

The driver was identified as Vigil, and the officer said that he could smell alcohol when he started to interact with him. The officer additionally said that Virgil had physical indications of being intoxicated.

When talking with the officer, it was reported that Vigil said he had a couple of drinks earlier in the evening, and that he did not feel as if he was impaired.

The officer disagreed, and Vigil was taken into custody and booked for DUI.

After the incident, Vigil penned a letter to resign from his position as fire chief. In the contents, he stated that “some actions and decisions I made over the weekend are not in alignment with the visions and values of our organization.” It was reported that Vigil is currently working in a civil service position for the department.
