Driver Gave Officer Meth with Registration Paperwork

A man who was pulled over for a vehicle registration problem reportedly handed the officer a packet of registration paperwork with a baggie of methamphetamine in the stack.

57-year-old Roy Porter lives in West Union, West Virginia.

Last weekend, Porter was driving on the Interstate, and a man later identified as Jared Mayle was his passenger.

An officer with the Bridgeport Police Department spotted the vehicle and believed that it had improper registration.

The officer performed a traffic stop, and they approached to talk to Porter about the situation.

When the officer mentioned the improper registration, Porter reportedly presented them with a packet of paperwork that was assumed to be the registration documents.

As the officer took the packet from Porter, a small plastic baggy holding a white crystalline substance allegedly dropped out of the stack of papers.

The officer purported that it was methamphetamine and called for backup. The police brought a K9 officer to the scene.

It was reported that when the dog inspected the vehicle, it behaved in a manner that confirmed the officers’ suspicions that there were drugs in the car.

According to reports, the police found that Porter was holding a total of 4 grams of methamphetamine.

When Mayle interacted with the authorities, he was reportedly found in possession of 220 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine. The powder was stored in two separate plastic bags.

Field testing was performed on the contents of all three bags, and it reportedly showed positive results for methamphetamine.

They were both transported to the Bridgeport Police Department for processing. Porter has been accused of conspiracy to commit a felony, and Mayle is suspected of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

Porter and Mayle were incarcerated in the North Central Regional Jail. Porter is being held in lieu of a $5,000 bond, and Mayle was released on bond.
