DUI Suspect Crashed into Four Cars while Fleeing Police

A DUI suspect from Idaho who reportedly had guns and open alcohol containers in his vehicle was arrested in Utah after allegedly causing a wreck while speeding and evading the police.

According to reports, on the evening of December 24, a 23-year-old man from Idaho was driving a white truck in North Park, Utah. The authorities began receiving calls from people reporting a vehicle fitting the description of the man’s truck, and officers with the North Park Police Department found it traveling on a busy road. They tried to perform a traffic stop, but the driver reportedly sped up and got away from them by swerving around the other cars. The police decided to stop chasing him so no one would be put at risk.

A deputy from the Cache County Sheriff’s Office was nearby, and they saw the truck as it drove by. They noted that the vehicle did not have a visible license plate and that the driver failed to remain in their designated lane. The deputy tried to pull him over, but he reportedly continued fleeing.

When he came to a red light, the man tried to drive between the cars that were stopped, and his truck ended up in the grass on the side of the road after striking three vehicles. When he tried to drive away again, he hit one more vehicle before crashing into a police car.

When his vehicle was searched, the authorities said they found open containers of alcohol and several firearms.

The man was taken into custody and booked into the Cache County Jail. He is facing several preliminary charges including two felony counts of failure to stop or respond to an officer’s command, two misdemeanor counts of carrying a dangerous weapon while under the influence, eight felony counts of negligence while operating a vehicle resulting in injuries, one misdemeanor count of reckless driving, one misdemeanor count of DUI, two misdemeanor counts of driving with an open container of alcohol, four misdemeanor counts of failure to comply with duties involving a crash, and one misdemeanor count of reckless driving. Currently, he is being held without bail.
