DUI Suspect with 2 Kids in Car Led Police on Chase

A Nebraska woman was arrested after allegedly driving under the influence with two children in her vehicle and leading the police on a chase when they tried to interact with her.

At approximately 1:00 AM on January 1, a 27-year-old woman was driving in Sydney with two children in the vehicle. According to reports, the youngsters were in the back seat, and they were not wearing seat belts.

About an hour later, a trooper from the Nebraska State Patrol was nearby, and the woman allegedly hit the back end of their vehicle. The law enforcement officer believed it was done intentionally, and they performed a traffic stop.

As the trooper started talking to the woman, they reported that they could smell alcohol, in addition to noting that there appeared to be a child in the vehicle. It was determined that the driver should do roadside sobriety testing, but the woman reportedly drove away.

After allegedly speeding through a residential part of town, the woman got on the highway and reportedly led the police on a high-speed chase. It was reported that the pursuit only lasted approximately two miles before the woman’s vehicle ran out of gas and she was forced to stop.

When the authorities looked inside the vehicle, they reported that two children were in the back without safety seats or belts.

The woman was taken into custody and booked into the Cheyenne County Jail. She is facing preliminary charges for suspicion of child endangerment, flight to avoid arrest, driving under the influence of alcohol with a BAC of .15 or higher, and obstructing a peace officer. It was reported that the youngsters, who were not physically harmed, were placed in the custody of family members.
