Five Florida men were arrested after authorities investigated the alleged armed robbery of a man who was walking home from work.
According to investigators, officers located a pickup truck believed to have been involved in the incident parked outside a residence later that night. The authorities said several individuals matching witness descriptions were seen outside the home, but they allegedly ran inside when officers arrived.
The authorities surrounded the residence and waited until those inside eventually came out. During the investigation, two teenage girls were also accused of interfering with officers. One allegedly provided a false birth date, while another was accused of refusing to allow officers to search for the men who had entered the home.
Investigators said one of the girls had been riding in the truck earlier in the evening with her boyfriend and several friends. According to the authorities, she later told officers that she heard yelling during the incident and saw one of the men return carrying a green vape pen.
The investigation began after a man reported being robbed while walking home from work. According to the authorities, a pickup truck stopped near the alleged victim, and several men got out before demanding property from him. Investigators alleged that one of the suspects displayed a firearm tucked into his waistband while the group searched the man’s pockets.
The alleged victim told officers he only had a cellphone and a vape pen. The group allegedly took the vape pen and then demanded the phone. Investigators said the man refused to hand it over after telling them it could be tracked, and the suspects then left the area.
Five men between the ages of 18 and 19 were arrested on charges including armed robbery and petit theft. According to the authorities, one of the defendants was also wanted on an unrelated warrant.
